  • A parking garage being constructed at Metro Division 13 partially collapsed in downtown L.A. this morning, but no one was injured.

The garage has been under construction since late 2012 and will serve 200 city buses when it is completed, but construction has been halted until a complete investigation can be done. Officials say an employee who was overseeing a concrete pour noticed something wasn’t right and immediately evacuated the site as per safety instructions.
    .
“All the safety procedures worked as designed,” Metro spokesman Paul Gonzales said.

There were 180 workers on site at the time, but everyone had cleared the area when the top level of the structure collapsed at a little before 9 a.m. on Friday morning. As of right now, authorities aren’t sure what could have caused the damage.

“This is going to need to be investigated,” Gonzales said. “Our target time to complete this was this summer — so that will be delayed.”

The collapse isn’t the first to occur at a parking garage; last year, a mall garage in Maryland which had been closed off to the public collapsed during major construction and killed one man, trapping another for hours.
