  • Oscar Pistorius, the South African double-amputee track athlete, was accused of saying a “sinister remark” when his trial went on break Tuesday.

Pistorius allegedly asked his slain girlfriend’s friend, “How can you sleep at night?”

The incident is said to have happened on the 27th day of his trial in South Africa. The 27-year-old athlete is facing trial for killing his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, in 2013. Pistorius’ said that he accidentally shot his girlfriend thinking that she was an intruder.

Pistorius denied the allegations and Brian Webb, his lawyer, said that the incident that allegedly happened on trial was “grossly untrue.”

According to Pistorius, he has not spoken to any of Steenkamp’s friends for over a year. “I walk past them in corridors and hold doors open for them but they don’t look me in the eye,” he told a reporter.

Kim Myers, the sister of Steenkamp’s best friend, says otherwise. In a statement released by her lawyer, Myers said that Pistorius approached her in court and asked the question: “How can you sleep at night?” using a very sinister tone.

Myers’ camp has already filed a complaint that has been received by the National Prosecuting Authority. However, reports indicate that they are most likely not to take action, since Myers has not been officially called in court to testify during the trial.

Pistorius’ trial is scheduled to run until mid-May. During Tuesday’s trial, two of Pistorius’ neighbors testified that they heard a man scream on the night of Steenkamp’s murder. One neighbor, Mike Nhlengethwa said that he heard desperate cries “It was very loud, like he was in danger.”

Nhlengethwa then went outside with his wife after they heard the sound of a gunshot followed by screams. They saw security near Pistorius’ home and went over to see what was happening. He saw the athlete kneeling over his girlfriend’s dead body.

Pistorius’ trial will resume on Thursday.

Reeva Steenkamp’s friend says she was threatened by Oscar Pistorius.
