  • We’ve all been there; no matter how well we think we’re brushing our teeth, a visit to the dentist deflates us a bit. Now, however, there’s a technologically advanced toothbrush made just for those who want instant feedback instead of waiting for the six-month checkup.

Oral-B has announced they will be introducing a new toothbrush in the spring that comes with an app for iPhone and Android which allows the brusher to see how well they’re doing in real time, personalize their brush to focus on specific problem areas, and store data, much like a fitness tracker. Using Bluetooth technology, the brush will also allow dentists to program customized routines for their patients.

“It provides the highest degree of user interaction to track your oral care habits to help improve your oral health, and we believe it will have significant impact on the future of personal oral care, providing data-based solutions for oral health, and making the relationship between dental professionals and patients a more collaborative one,” said Wayne Randall, vice president of Oral Care at Procter and Gamble.

The new brush will be released first in Germany and will begin hitting shelves around the world in June, with a price point of about $273. But this isn’t the company’s first foray into technology by any means; they’ve also partnered with Disney to create an app just for kids which will help them brush longer. The Disney Magic Timer App by Oral-B can be downloaded for free and provides a two-minute timer to help young ones learn how long they need to clean their teeth; it also gives them images of Disney and Marvel characters as encouragement and provides 16 different custom animations, plus 1,600 rewards for a job well done.

“As a mom, I know how impossible it can be to instill healthy oral care habits in my kids” said Olympic gold medalist Dominique Moceanu, who has partnered with Oral-B to spread the word about the app. “I have gone to great lengths including singing our ABC’s and tickling my children to get them to brush. That is why I am so excited to partner with Oral-B and use the new app with my children.”
