Oliver Hudson called out his biological dad last June on Father’s Day, over having abandoned him and sister Kate Hudson many years back. Hudson did so in an Instagram post.
The post featured pictures of Kate and Oliver Hudson as kids, and he captioned it “happy abandonment day…”
It seems in hindsight that Oliver Hudson’s post might have done some good. He and his father have reunited, and while not everything is perfect, at least there is communication between the two.
Oliver Hudson chatted with Bravo’s Andy Cohen about his reunion with his biological dad on What What Happens Live.
“It actually started a dialogue,” Oliver Hudson said. “I haven’t talked to my father in 12 years. In my sort of dark, crazy sense of humor, I posted this ‘Happy Abandonment Day’ thing, which, you know, everyone went crazy about. I was just trying to be funny.”
“At the end of the day it was a good thing. We’re communicating now. I had an amazing three-hour conversation with him. We’re texting and we’re trying to see each other. We might be mending something,” the Scream Queens star explained.
Initially things didn’t look like they were reparable. After Oliver Hudson’s Father’s Day post, Bill Hudson said Oliver and Kate were dead to him.
“I had five birth children and I now consider myself a father of three,” Bill Hudson. “I no longer recognize Oliver and Kate as my own. I would ask them to stop using the Hudson name. They are no longer a part of my life. Oliver’s Instagram post was a malicious, vicious, premeditated attack.“

Kurt Russell, who served as a stepfather to Oliver and Kate, reached out to Bill Hudson, and tried to smooth things over.
“I understood Oliver’s sense of humor and since then, there’s been some nice back and forth between Bill and Oliver that’s nice to see,” Goldie Hawn’s long time partner said.
Hopefully this is the beginning of a new kind of relationship between Bill and Oliver Hudson. There is no word yet as to how Kate Hudson feels about their reunion.
