Official “Facebook And Privacy” Page Launches

  • These days, remaining ignorant of privacy issues as they relate to Facebook is hard to do; even if the social network didn’t communicate about these things, every policy tweak is documented by hundreds of articles.  Just the same, Facebook’s chosen to get more open about its stance on the subject by introducing a Facebook Page about privacy.

The new Page is the same sort of thing that any number of celebrities and companies use to keep people up to date, and Facebook will employ its Page in much the same way.  Users who choose to like it will receive information concerning Facebook and privacy – which is in fact the name of the Page – right in their News Feeds.

A post on the Facebook Blog explained, "The Facebook and Privacy Page serves as a living resource and a venue to facilitate an interactive discussion about privacy with all of you.  We’ll regularly post updates on relevant new content, products and news stories related to online privacy.  Already you’ll find a repository of online privacy resources both from Facebook and outside experts, including our video tutorials on how to choose your settings as well as links to our privacy guide and FAQs."

And for better or worse, the Page seems to have achieved moderate success so far, with 575 people liking it at the time this article was published.

Whether or not the Page takes off may not be entirely important, though, since Facebook can’t be held responsible for its success, and by launching it, should earn a little more respect from privacy advocates, regardless.
