Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s daughter North West celebrated her first birthday on Father’s day on June 14, 2014.

We can be sure that North had an elaborate birthday party and celebration, and it looks like one of her birthday gifts was getting her ears pierced.

While some may not find this to be a big deal, others have voiced their outrage that Kim and Kanye would pierce their daughter’s ears at such a young age.

The trio was photographed on a birthday outing, and North’s diamond studs were very noticeable, and sparked a controversy on Twitter.

“Far too young. Let her decide for herself when older! Should be banned, unneccessary (sic) and cruel. Purely for vanity of parents,” one user tweeted on Monday. “Shes only a yr old! I think it should be the childs choice NOT the parents!! #SorryNotSorry,” another Twitter user wrote.

Other Twitter users were more understanding, and wondered why North having her ears pierced was even a news story.

“Why is north west wearing earrings even a news story? Didn’t we all get our ears pierced at like 3 months old?” one person asked. “Looool so north west got her ears pierced I got mine pieced way before I was one,” wrote another user.

Another user took to Kimye’s defense, stating that they are not unfit parents simply because they made the decision to pierce their daughter’s ears. “Why is it such a big deal that North West has her ears pierced… Kanye and Kim aren’t unfit parents because of that

Piercing a child’s ears at such a young age has always been a controversial subject. While it is ultimately the parent’s choice, doctors recommend waiting until the child is old enough to care for the piercing themselves.
