  • Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder may be a thing of the past, but Nina–who covers the August issue of Nylon magazine–is good to her ex-boyfriend just the same.

“I don’t like any kind of negativity,” the Vampire Diaries beauty says inside Nylon’s pages. “I try to be good to everyone, whether it’s a love, a friend, an ex. I’ll always try to treat people the way I want to be treated.”

Ian Somerhalder thinks she’s done a pretty good job of it, too.

“She always lets me have the last fry,” he told Nylon.

Nina Dobrev had to switch roles recently–from that of vampire to one involving humor–and she no doubt did a good job of that as well. She stars in an upcoming film called Let’s Be Cops.

“I can get to an emotional place and start crying, but there’s pressure when you think you have to be funny…You really have to be uninhibited and fearless,” she said.

Dobrev stars alongside Daymon Wayons, Jr., and he’s rather impressed with her transition.

“She really knows how to play a scene—and she’s down to do anything for a laugh,” he said of the Vampire Diaries star.

Nina Dobrev admitted in her interview that it’s a bit strange to realize that complete strangers–like most of the people she works with in making this new film–are aware of many of her life’s intricacies.

“I really do forget [about that dynamic],” she says. “People feel like they know you when you’re in their living room, weekly, for five years. But I always get uncomfortable when people know more about me than I know about them.”

She has no intentions of letting any of that change, however.

“Success is the only option—well, the highest level of success is the only option,” she said–with regard to the future. “I’m kind of extremist in that way.”

Do you think there’s any chance Nina Dobrev’s future might include giving her relationship with Ian Somerhalder another go? Vampire Diaries fans would probably love that kind of success, too.

Per the photo below, it doesn’t seem like Ian is the ‘love’ she is referring to, however. She captioned it, “So happy to be home with my love.”
