  • Nikki Reed and her new Vampire Diaries husband Ian Somerhalder are enjoying a romantic honeymoon in Mexico. Between lounging on the sand and playing in the surf, the newlyweds managed to snap some photos of their adventure.

People magazine reports that Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed tied the knot on April 26th. The wedding took place at Topanga Canyon in Malibu.

Nikki Reed shared one of those sun and fun photos with her followers on Instagram, showing a very sweet and loving moment the honeymooners shared.

“Salty…sandy…sticky…sunburned. The best. I love this human. My human,” she captioned the shot.

This is a second marriage for Nikki Reed, who was previously married to American Idol finalist Paul McDonald. The two divorced just over a year ago, in March or 2014. Ian Somerhalder is enjoying wedded bliss for the very first time, but dated Vampire Diaries costar Nina Dobrev for quite some time.

Hollywood Life recently raised a question about whether or not Nikki Reed and Ian Somerhalder are anxious to star a family. The answer likely won’t surprise most of their fans.

“Their babies are their animals. They don’t want to add to the family right now. They don’t feel like they rushed into marriage, but if they had kids now, they feel that would actually be a bit of a rush,” a source tells the publication.

Hollywood Life also claims Nikki and Ian have had a lot of fun out of the way of cameras while on their honeymoon, too. Maybe they’re adhering to a ‘practice makes perfect’ philosophy before starting their family?

That said, when Nikki Reed and Ian Somerhalder return from their honeymoon, they’ll concentrate on each other–something not enough young married couples do. This will allow them to grow as a couple and to learn when the time is right to add human babies to their family.
