  • Nicky Hilton married on Friday. Her wedding to James Rothschild, son of Amschel Rothschild, a financier with a pedigree among bankers, took place at Kensington Palace in London. The entire event was the stuff of princesses and outrageously wealthy associates.

Back in October, Nicky Hilton claimed she had made no plans for her wedding, but her mother was busy with sketches and ideas.

“I haven’t planned a thing for my wedding,” she said at the time. “I’ve been too busy.”

“I just got back from New York and as soon as I landed in LA my mom was there with all this wedding planning material. She had tear outs and inspiration boards and was ready to talk wedding planning. But I am not there yet, I have not made one decision so far. I haven’t even picked a date or a wedding planner. I have been busy with my book.”

Hilton once talked about having her bridesmaids in an array of sherbet-colored dresses. Nicky’s sister Paris Hilton, who served as Maid of Honor, told People magazine that she was comfortable wearing whatever her designer sister came up with for her.

“I know that Nicky has impeccable taste so the bridesmaid dresses are going to be beautiful,” Paris said.

In the end, Paris wore pale a blue chiffon gown and diamond drop necklace which coordinate well with her mother, whose dress was the same color and was paired with pearls.

But it was Nicky Hilton’s bridal gown that turned heads. Valentino Haute Couture gown was publicized as featuring “three different tones of ivory and silver guipure richly embellished with crystals, and a high neck bodice stitched to a precious balloon skirt ending with a three meter long train.”

“Ever since I was a little girl I wanted Valentino to design my wedding dress. Valentino is the definition of timeless elegance, I don’t think there’s another couture house like it,” she told Harper’s Bazaar, revealing that she had a lot of input into the design. “I went through every look from their collections over the last 10 years. I studied the archives, and I just sent notes about details I liked — a certain sleeve, a high neckline.”

While it was a stunning sight, it was that three meter long train that got headlines in a not-so-glamorous way. Perhaps the Hilton sisters’ flirtations with reality TV could not be shaken by a hop across the ocean and castle walls.

Nicky’s long veil and train got caught under the tire of a parked Bentley. She remained calm and she was freed by an assistant. To prevent this from happening again, she gathered her train and lifted it. But she lifted a little high, and flashed onlookers and cameras a view of her panties.
