  • Until now, the only clue we’d received about the upcoming Netflix original series Sense8 is that it is “a gripping global tale of minds linked and souls hunted.” Intriguing, but far from a clear picture of what we can expect from the Wachowski siblings’ new sci-fi drama.

    This will help.

Writer and showrunner J. Michael Straczynski recently gave Deadline a much more detailed synopsis of the show, which is set to premiere next year.

“The series follows eight characters around the world who, in the aftermath of a tragic death, find themselves linked to each other mentally and emotionally. They can not only see and talk to each other as though they were in the same place, they have access to each other’s deepest secrets. Not only must they figure out what happened and why and what it means for the future of humanity, they must do so while being hunted by an organization out to capture, kill or vivisect them,” he said.

We also have an official cast list, lead by LOST‘s Naveen Andrews and Kill Bill and Blade Runner‘s Daryl Hannah.

The rest of the cast includes Brian J. Smith, Tuppence Middleton, Aml Ameen, Freema Agyeman, Tena Desae, Doona Bae, Max Riemelt, Alfonso Herrera, Erendira Ibarra, Jamie Clayton, Miguel Silvestre, and Terrence Mann.

That’s a globetrotting cast list, which makes sense considering the nature of Sense8‘s ambitious globe-spanning story arc. We learned that the project just started filming in San Francisco last week, after a lengthy delay. Other future filming locations include London, Berlin, Seoul, Iceland, Mexico City, Nairobi, and Mumbai.
