  • Netflix and Scholastic announced an expansion of their partnership today giving Netflix exclusive streaming rights to the children’s favorite Clifford the Big Red Dog.

The show will hit Netflix on February 14th, which just happens to be the same day as the new season of Netflix original House of Cards (which has become known for its dog murder).

The partnership previously saw Netflix add shows like Goosebumps and The Magic School Bus.

Netflix content chief Ted Sarandos said, “We are delighted to expand our relationship with Scholastic with the addition of Clifford, one of its most popular and timeless series. Globally recognized as the lovable role model that he is, Clifford is a great addition to our catalog of family-friendly TV shows.”

“For more than 50 years, through books and television, Clifford has become the world’s most beloved and iconic dog,” said Deborah Forte, president of Scholastic Media and executive vice president of Scholastic Inc. ‘We’re thrilled that with Netflix, children and families can watch Clifford anytime and anywhere.”

They’re actually turning this news into a big production. Netflix also announced that to celebrate the content addition, on February 14h, Clifford himself will close the NASDAQ MarketSite in New York.

Netflix is reportedly to spend about $3 billion on television and film content this year.
