  • “Mystery Science Theater 3000” was a cult hit during its run on television, and has lived on in the hearts of fans through DVD and Netflix. Now, those of us who couldn’t get enough of the wiseass, futuristic movie critics will have another chance to see them narrate again, but it will be a little different.

Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett will be giving their thoughts on a nature special on National Geographic Channel–three of them, in fact, in one-hour installments–under the title “Total Riff Off”, a take on the name of their site Rifftrax.com.

It’s not clear whether the “MST3K” format will make a comeback for the April Fool’s Day special–where the characters of Corbett and Crow T. Robot show up in silhouette against a giant movie screen–but fans are excited to see their old friends on TV again. The first episode, titled “Killer Shrimp N’ Friends”, will air on April 1 at 8 p.m.

The original show won a Peabody Award and garnered two Emmy nominations during its run of 11 seasons, all for making fun of old B-movies.
