1980s television and film star Molly Ringwald recently posted a humorous picture of her daughter, Mathilda, on Twitter.

The picture was taken at Target as the family went back to school shopping and happened to come across a display for the iconic 80s movie, Sixteen Candles.

“She can’t escape her mom, even when back to school shopping at Target,” Ringwald posted.

Mathilda, 11, is one of the children of Ringwald and her second husband, Panio Gianopoulos, a Greek-American writer and book editor. They also have twins, Adele and Roman, who were born in 2009.

Ringwald rose to stardom in 1984 as Samantha Baker in Sixteen Candles along with Anthony Michael Hall. The film, written and directed by John Hughes, was one of his many coming-of-age comedies of the time. Others included Pretty in Pink and The Breakfast Club, also starring Ringwald, and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Hughes is not only known for these films but for also launching the careers of several actors including Ringwald, Hall, and others sometimes known as the Brat Pack.

Ringwald appeared in several television shows before her appearance in Sixteen Candles. She played Molly Parker, a perky, feminist student at Eastland Girls School, in The Facts of Life and also appeared on Diff’rent Strokes in 1979.

But as the 80s began to fade, so did Ringwald, turning down roles in iconic movies such as Pretty Woman and Ghost. She soon moved to Paris and, being fluent in French, starred in several French films. Then in 1994 Ringwald returned to American television in the TV adaptation of Stephen King’s The Stand.

In 2013, Ringwald released her first jazz record, Except Sometimes.

“I grew up in a home filled with music and had an early appreciation of jazz since my dad was a jazz musician,” she said. “Beginning at around age three I started singing with his band and jazz music has continued to be one of my three passions along with acting and writing. I like to say jazz music is my musical equivalent of comfort food. It’s always where I go back to when I want to feel grounded.”

One of the tracks on the record is a cover of “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” from The Breakfast Club.

Ringwald, along with being a super cool mom, will soon appear in the upcoming musical fantasy Jem and the Holograms, based on the 1980s television show.
