  • Miley Cyrus attended this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, however it was a very different appearance than last year.

Rather than her constant twerking and rubbing herself with a foam finger, Miley decided to use her time on stage to promote a mission she has been working on … to help homeless teens.

Miley took home the video of the year moonman for her video Wrecking Ball, and beat out Beyoncé and Jay Z, Pharrell, Iggy Azalea, and Sia. Instead of accepting the award herself, Cyrus let her date, a former homeless teen, do the honors.

“Thank y’all, my name is Jesse and I accepting this award on behalf of the 1.6 million runaways and homeless youth in the United States who are starving, lost and scared for their lives right now. I know this because I am one of these people,” he said, while Cyrus sat nearby. “I’ve survived in shelters all over. …Though I may have been invisible to you in the streets, I have a lot of the same dreams that brought many of you here tonight.”

Miley may have had a controversial year, but it seems that she is now using her star power for good. MTV shared a photo, on their Instagram account, of Miley and Jesse to raise awareness about teenage homelessness.

Miley also uploaded a video to Facebook to give more information on what she is trying to do. “Help me raise awareness and funds to end youth homelessness!” she wrote. “This is just the beginning for me, but we’re going to get started now by focusing on My Friend’s Place, a homeless center for young people in Hollywood.”
