  • Miley Cyrus may not have meant to create a firestorm of controversy when she performed at the MTV VMAs earlier this year with Robin Thicke, but their sexed-up stage show blew up Twitter and–let’s face it–the rest of the web immediately afterward. The performance paved the way for the 20-year old singer’s new video, “Wrecking Ball”, as well as an open letter from singer Sinead O’Connor, who pleaded with Cyrus not to be seduced by record execs who will use her sexuality to make money and then toss her aside. Now, Cyrus has signed up to do it all over again…in a different country.

The singer will join Katy Perry and The Killers–among others–on stage at the MTV EMAs in Amsterdam on November 10. It hasn’t been announced whether she’ll be performing solo or what the show will consist of, and while some are wondering why she would put herself through that again after facing such backlash the first time, it’s clear that she didn’t take the situation as seriously as everyone else did.

“I don’t pay attention to the negative because I’ve seen this play out so many times,” she said. “You’re thinking about it more than I thought about it when I did it…How many times have we seen this play out in pop music? Madonna’s done it, Britney’s done it. Every VMA performance… anyone that performs, that’s what you’re looking for. You’re wanting to make history.”

Cyrus has certainly moved on, and while her name might be one that’s getting overused in the media right now, she managed to come back from the infamous performance and host a successful episode of SNL as well as record an a cappella version of “We Can’t Stop” with The Roots and Jimmy Fallon that quickly went viral. That coupled with the fact that “Wrecking Ball” shattered records on Vevo in its first week proves that people aren’t going to tire of her anytime soon.
