  • Michael Strahan and Nicole Murphy have split, and anyone who knows anything about the former couple seems to realize it was a predictable break up. The engaged couple have had two years worth of ups and downs, with a long distance relationship being at the center of the problems.

“They have been on and off for two years. There have been a lot of ups and downs and back and forth. Sometimes they were together, sometimes they were not,” a source explains. “They were both aware all along of their relationship status. No one did anything wrong. They were both aware of their situation and it was a complicated relationship. There are no big surprises between them.”

Once Michael Strahan became Kelly Ripa’s sidekick on Live With Kelly and Michael, things predictably became more difficult.

“They have been trying to figure things out since he got the show and it became a long-distance relationship,” the source adds.

So far, however, it doesn’t seem as though too much finger pointing has taken place, even though rumor has it that Strahan was blindsided by Murphy telling him she was calling it quits via an unannounced visit to a hotel room. She accused him of cheating and even believed there was a woman in the hotel room with him.

Nicole Murphy is said to be relaxing in the Bahamas now, however, while Michael Strahan is currently basking in the glory of having been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Neither appears all that upset.

Nicole Murphy was married to actor and comedian Eddie Murphy and Michael Strahan was married to Jean Muggli. Between the two of them, they have nine children. That in itself would be enough for most people to call off an engagement.

Alas that likely had no bearing on the status of their relationship. It seems like life and career choices simply got in their way.

Are you surprised to learn that Michael Strahan and Nicole Murphy have called it quits? It’s refreshing to see a prominent couple who can keep things civil in light of what has to be a most difficult decision.

Do you think it will stay that way–or is this just the beginning of something that will cover the tabloids for the next few weeks or months?
