Mel Gibson Makes Hollywood Return at Sunday’s Golden Globes

  • Mel Gibson has been noticeably absent from Hollywood for about 10 years, following a headlining custody battle and a drunk, sexist and anti-Semitic encounter with the Malibu police department. These scenarios dropped the actor who brought Jesus Christ to the big screen to a level that cost him his fans and his career.

On Sunday, Hollywood is welcoming Mel Gibson back. He will serve as a presenter at this year’s Golden Globes. What most people are asking as they learn this tidbit of news, is why?

During his infamous arrest for drunk driving, Mel Gibson coined the phrase “sugar tits” when addressing a female officer. He also said to a male officer, “The Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world. Are you a Jew?”

During his 2010 split from girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva, the mother of his child, Mel Gibson shocked the media with use of the word “nigger,” and with threatening to bury Grigorieva in the rose garden.

Now he’s going to shine brightly in front of Hollywood’s best and brightest, as well as viewers tuning to to see the Golden Globes.

Producers announced on Tuesday that Mel Gibson will join Jim Carrey, Amy Adams, Helen Mirren, Kurt Russell, Jamie Foxx, Kate Hudson, Eddie Redmayne, and Channing Tatum on the roster of presenters. Ricky Gervais is hosting the show.

What’s your take on producers asking Mel Gibson to appear on stage at the Golden Globes? Are you surprised a boycott isn’t taking place to have him removed from the lineup? Is Hollywood really that quick to forgive and forget?
