Back in mid-December, rumors were swirling that Mel B was ready to divorce her husband, director Stephen Belafonte. According to inside sources being quoted hither and yon at the time, Mel B was ready to bolt because Belafonte had hit her.
Much of this speculation seems to have come about because Mel B, a former Spice Girl was serves as a judge on UK’s X Factor show, was absent from the show’s semi-finals episode due to an unspecified “illness.” When Mel returned the following week for the finals, she had what some reported appeared to be bruises. And many noted that she was not wearing her wedding ing.
The Sun reported that Mel B had left the couple’s home and was eager to get on with life without Belafonte.
Belafonte himself threatened legal action against the outlets promoting the rumors.
“Who accused me of it, did she accuse me of it, the police, the hospital, who accused me of it? I thought when you beat someone up the police or the hospital or the person you beat up says it. You’ll see all the legal letters going out tomorrow. Everybody’s been contacted by Mel’s representative.”
Mel B has two other children from previous relationships, including daughters Phoenix and Angel. She also has a daughter with Belafonte named Madison.
But Mel B posted a picture to Instagram recently that showed her with Belafonte and all three daughters.
In addition, Belafonte posted this picture of himself out and about with Phoenix. When some commenters started bringing up the abuse rumors again, Phoenix herself ran to Belafonte’s defense in the comments.
“Can everyone just chill he didn’t hit my mom don’t know how that stupid rumour came up.”
