  • McDonald’s is prepping for layoffs, with the company axing some corporate jobs and temporarily closing its offices.

The tech industry has already laid off hundreds of thousands of workers. According to a company message seen by The Wall Street Journal, McDonald’s layoffs are part of a broader restructuring plan.

“During the week of April 3, we will communicate key decisions related to roles and staffing levels across the organization,” the message read.

The company went on to ask its employees in the US, as well as some international workers, to work from home Monday through Wednesday. The company also asked its employees to cancel in-person meetings with outside vendors and other entities. McDonald’s plans to let impacted employees know virtually in an effort to prevent confusion or information leaking out piecemeal.

“We want to ensure the comfort and confidentiality of our people during the notification period,” the company said.

“Some jobs that are existing today are either going to get moved or those jobs may go away,” CEO Chris Kempczinski added.
