  • After 26 years together, and four children, Matt and Amy Roloff, the stars of TLC’s Little People Big World, have decided to separate.

“Though we have weathered many storms together, we recently made the tough decision to engage in a trial separation,” they told PEOPLE in an exclusive interview.

While they are officially separated, Matt and Amy will both be living on the farm that they have built together. “Matt remains living on the farm in our guest house and we work together everyday on the farm, on our business endeavors and most importantly, raising our amazing children.”

Matt and Amy, along with their kids twins Jeremy and Zack, 23, Molly, 20, and Jacob, 17, have had their lives documented on Little People Big World for years. Viewers have gotten to see their daily struggles, obstacles, and triumphs. Last season, it was well-known that Amy and Matt’s relationship was dwindling, which makes it not so much of a shock that they have decided to take time apart.

“Last year it was long and tough,” Matt said in a clip their upcoming episode, scheduled to air on March 25. “Amy and I had a lot of tension so right around Thanksgiving. I thought I would move over to the bridal house for a little bit and we’ll try that. Amy and I stuck it out for years and years when maybe we shouldn’t have. I never quite felt at home in my own home so something needed to change,” he continued. “We needed to try something different.”

There is currently no talk of divorce, they are simply living apart and trying to see if their marriage can be saved. They are keeping their focus on their children, and what is best for them.
