  • Mary J. Blige is facing her second legal battle regarding a loan in just over a year; the 41-year old songstress is being sued by a New York-based bank over an alleged default on a $2.2 million advance she was given, along with her husband, Martin Isaacs.

The loan also names Blige’s production company, Mary Jane Productions, in the suit. The bank says they hope to get back the amount of the loan plus almost $60,000 in interest.

Earlier this year, Blige was involved in a round of accusations aimed at a charity she’s involved in–The Mary J. Blige and Steve Stoute Foundation for the Advancement of Women Now Inc–concerning mishandling of funds which took advantage of scholarship students. The singer denied any wrongdoing, however, saying she fully intended to follow through on the charity’s promise.

“The lives of young women are at stake,” she said. “I feel what they feel. I don’t want them to suffer. I promised them something and I’m gonna deliver. Period.”

It’s been a rocky year for Blige; back in the spring, she caught quite a bit of heat for recording a song for Burger King which some said “reinforced stereotypes” of African Americans.
