  • Marisa Tomei has donned the hat of producer for the upcoming film Loitering With Intent.

The 49-year-old actress told Page Six she had several reasons for deciding to branch out into this new role in the movie industry.

“I got into producing out of necessity and curiosity. Reading scripts, looking for ideas got me into subjects that don’t always come across for an actress,” said Tomei. “Others are doing the heavy lifting, and I’m a neophyte, but it’s exciting.”

Michael Godere and Ivan Martin wrote and star in Loitering with Intent. The film follows a group out-of-work actors turned screenwriters who lean on each other as they muddle through Hollywood’s cutthroat world. Premiering at the Tribeca Film Festial earlier this year, the gritty film takes a hard look at the film industry.

“The heart of this film is about friendship. Michael and Ivan created great characters and a great atmosphere to work in. We had a ball bringing this world to life,” said Tomei in a statement.

The film also stars Sam Rockwell and Natasha Lyonne.

Tomei is also starring with Hugh Grant in the romantic comedy, The Rewrite, about a rakish, down-on-his-luck screenwriter who demeans himself by taking a job teaching at a college.

Directed by Marc Lawrence, who collaborated with Grant on 2002’s Two Weeks Notice and 2007’s Music and Lyrics, the comedy also stars Allison Janney and J.K. Simmons.
