Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon are the latest celebrity couple to throw in the matrimonial towel.

The couple was married back in 2008 in the Bahamas after only dating for a few weeks. They have since celebrated a yearly vow renewal.

Mariah Carey and Cannon celebrated their first vow renewal in The Maldives in 2009. Their second was at their Beverly Hills home in 2010.

The third was at the hospital where Carey gave birth to their twins, affectionately know to the world as “dem babies”, in 2011. Then there was Paris at the top of the Eiffel Tower in 2012, and finally Disneyland in 2013.

Curiously, no vow renewal for 2014….

Now the couple is said to have been living apart in New York since May, with Cannon reportedly bunking in hotels.

So what caused the end to one of the most…interesting…relationships in pop culture?

TMZ reports that the beginning of the end was when Nick Cannon appeared on Big Boy’s radio show and, to Mariah Carey’s horror, revealed that he had slept with Kim Kardashian.

Then, there was his appearance on Howard Stern’s show wherein he told the world that Mariah Carey wouldn’t sleep with him until they were married.

That would do it. Doesn’t Nick know when to keep his mouth shut? Marriage 101: Don’t talk to the world about you and your wife’s bedroom habits. That’s a huge no-no.

Apparently, this split is no big surprise to some people.

A source close to Mariah Carey said, “They have been living apart for a while. This is not all of a sudden.”

The source continued, “There have been issues between them for a while. They are not getting along. She wants to end it and it has been in the works for months, which is why her house in the Bahamas and the house in Bel-Air are on the market.”
