Maren Sanchez was murdered back in April of 2014 when she turned down a classmate who invited her to be his date at prom. On Monday, that classmate–Christopher Plaskon–pleaded no contest to murdering the 16-year-old.

According to a report from CBS News, on April 24, 2014, Plaskon became upset when Maren Sanchez turned down his invitation, and stabbed her to death inside Jonathan Law High School in Milford, Connecticut.

A witness to the crime tried to remove Plaskon from Maren Sanchez. Another saw him discard a bloody knife. When taken to the principal’s office after the crime, Plaskon reportedly said, “I did it. Just arrest me.”

Sentencing for Christopher Plaskon will take place on June 6. Prosecutors say they will seek a sentence of 25 years.

While the family of Maren Sanchez will no doubt breathe a sigh of relief when Plaskon is sentenced, no amount of jail time will bring their loved one back. They were in favor of the plea deal Plaskon accepted, however, saying Maren was a forgiving person. They also wanted to begin moving forward in light of the heinous crime and their devastating loss.

Maren Sanchez won’t get a second chance at life in 25 years, but it’s quite likely that Christopher Plaskon will get exactly that.
