  • During shooting for the upcoming film 300: Rise of an Empire, Game of Thrones star Lena Headey was forced to sheathe her plastic sword after accidentally hitting her co-stars below the belt.

“They teach you very basic moves,” Headey told Access Hollywood, “so you get these two big sticks like you’re a 4-year-old boy and then, if you don’t hurt anyone, they give you a plastic sword and you feel like you’ve passed a test.”

Headey plays Queen Gorgo in the film and underwent training to shoot fight scenes where Queen Gorgo wields a sword while defending the Spartans from the invading Persian army. But after she was given her plastic sword during training, things went horribly wrong.

“I made it to the plastic, and then I hit a couple of guys in the nuts,” Headey said. “Yeah…and I went back down to the sticks. I was downgraded.”

300: Rise of an Empire is the sequel of the popular movie 300, which Headey starred in as well. Like its predecessor, 300: Rise of an Empire, features mega action sequences and muscular men in Greek warrior clothing. It stars Headey as Queen Gorgo and Eva Green as the Persian army commander.

The featured battle takes place on the water just days after the original 300 battle.

“It made logical sense that my character would be there,” Headey told USA Today. “And I had fun in the first movie.”

Part of the fun came from the muscular men wearing tiny outfits while filming the movie.

“They all wore nothing,” Headey said. “At first, it was a little mesmerizing. Purely on the physical level, I appreciated the work they put it. And it’s quite lovely. But by Day 3, you’re hoping for a Christmas sweater to change it up.”

The new film will be ruled by the ladies, however. Their characters dominate the story and screen, including the fight scenes Headey was training for when she hit her co-stars below the belt.

300: Rise of an Empire opens in theaters on Friday.
