  • A new trailer for Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes has been released, and it showcases the title’s open-world gameplay and voice acting. According to the trailer, which was uploaded to YouTube by user OfficialGaminGuys, Lego Batman 2 open world gameplay will feature 500 square miles of a Lego Gotham City to Explore.

Newer Lego games (such as the Harry Potter Lego games, which feature an explorable Hogwarts Castle) have featured elements of exploratory, open-world gameplay. Not to this extent, though. The Lego website for Lego Batman 2 states that players will be able to explore Gotham City using the Batmobile and Batwing.

Also, players will presumably be able to fly around the city as Superman, since Batman won’t be the only super hero in the game. As seen in the trailer above, most of the Justice League is on board to fight The Joker and Lex Luthor. In addition to the Batman-centered heroes and villains featured in the first Lego Batman game, Lego Batman 2 includes Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Flash, and Superman, among others.

In a major change from previous lego games, voice work has been recorded for the characters in the game. Previously, characters in Lego games simply intimated and made various sounds to convey the story. It seems the lego franchise is growing up, but voice acting and sandbox gameplay similar to its older brother Arkham City could change Lego Batman 2 from a silly, casual Lego game into something more serious. We’ll have to wait until the game’s June 19 release date to find out. It is unknown whether the upcoming Lord of the Rings Lego Games will feature similar voice acting or an explorable Middle-Earth.
