  • In a highly controversial move, former Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor is auctioning off his 1991 Super Bowl ring for a whopping $100,000 just one day after the team received their new rings.

Taylor has put the ring up for sale on SCP Auctions and is hoping to pull in a hundred grand for the diamond-studded jewelry, which some thought was a lofty goal; however, with one day still left to bid the auction is already at almost $90,000. The minimum bid is $10,000.

Part of the item description reads, “The ring shows considerable wear, that in some eyes, only enhances it aura. A phenomenally important memento from one of the greatest football players of all-time.”

Mike Freeman, National NFL Insider, wrote about the auction with unconcealed disdain, calling Taylor a “disgrace” and a “train wreck”. And while not everyone agrees with him, there is a consensus that Taylor is disappointing a lot of people by selling such a prized and hard-earned possession.

Terrell Owens blows through $80 mil he made in the NFL, and now Lawrence Taylor is selling his ’90 Super Bowl ring. Sad. Pathetically sad.

Lawrence Taylor is auctioning off the Super Bowl XXV ring he won with the 1990 NY Giants. The question is what did LeBron James bid? #Heat
