The fatal shooting of Lana Meisner, the wife of Eagles bassist Randy Meisner, was ruled by police an accident.

“After a thorough investigation by Valley Bureau detective personnel and the Los Angeles Coroner’s Office, it was determined that Mrs. Meisner’s death was accidental,” a statement from the Los Angeles Police Department said.

According to the police, Lana, 63, was moving a rifle that was inside a case kept in a closet. Another item that was also inside the case hit the trigger and accidentally discharged a bullet that hit Lana Meisner in the head, which instantly killed her.

Police said the incident happened after they received a call reporting domestic violence at the same location at around 5:30 in the evening.

“North Hollywood patrol officers responded to a radio call of a woman asking for police assistance for a possibly intoxicated male suspect in the 3700 block of Eureka Drive,” said the department. “The officers took a domestic violence incident report and left the location.”

They were called back to the Meisner residence after the shooting and found Lana wounded. The 911 caller reportedly said Randy was behaving erratically and was waiving a BB gun. However, no BB gun was found at the crime scene, police said.

“We don’t have a case,” an LAPD investigator said “There’s going to be very little LAPD involvement. We took an accidental death investigation report. Once the coroner’s done and everybody has their say, then it will be closed out.” The detective also said that the domestic report they received the night before was unrelated.

Randy was placed in a psychiatric ward following the fatal shooting of his second wife, Lana Meisner. The Eagles founding member, shocked to find his wife dead, was said to have threatened to kill himself. He was put under 72-hour hold, and he will either be released on Wednesday night or be extended for another two weeks, his legal representative said. Randy was allegedly suffering from bipolar disorder.
