  • Kraft Foods has issued a recall Saturday for some varieties of cottage cheese that could spoil prematurely and cause food-borne illnesses.

Consumers should beware of Knudsen Cottage Cheese, Breakstone’s Cottage Cheese, Simply Kraft Cottage Cheese and Daily Chef Cottage Cheese with code dates from May 9, 2014 through July 23, 2014.

Only Simply Kraft Cottage Cheese products with a plant code of 06-245 are affected.

“Some ingredients used in these products were not stored in accordance with Kraft’s temperature standards,” the company said in a statement. “While unlikely, this could create conditions that could lead to premature spoilage and/or food borne illness; therefore, the company is issuing the recall as a precaution.”

The company says about 1.2 million cases of the product were distributed within the United States. No products were distributed outside the United States.

The products are made in a manufacturing facility in Tulare, California. The facility has stopped production and distribution of the affected cases of cottage cheese while the company investigates the issue.

No other Knudsen, Breakstone’s, Simply Kraft or Daily Chef products are impacted by the recall.

Consumers who purchased any of these products should return them to the store where purchased for an exchange or full refund.

For inquiries, consumers can contact Kraft Foods Consumer Relations at 1-800-396-6307 between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. EST.
