  • European video game start-up King.com has passed Electronic Arts (EA) for overall daily users on Facebook for the first time. The nine-year old company has experienced an explosion in popularity since launching on Facebook a little over a year ago with its saga games.

Bubble Witch Saga, King.com’s top Facebook game, now has more daily players than Zynga’s hit game Farmville.

“We have had great success with Bubble Witch Saga on Facebook and we are looking forward to moving further up the charts with the addition of Candy Crush Saga,” said Riccardo Zacconi, CEO of King.com. “We just passed 2.5 billion monthly gameplays yet Candy Crush Saga stands to be one of our most highly anticipated games to date. We’re very excited to see the impact of the game on the Facebook community of gamers.”

King.com’s sixth Facebook saga game, Candy Crush Saga, has already acquired nearly half a million daily users since its launch last week.

“Our ultimate ambition is to be the leader in our segment of games for the casual social player, mainly female, social and mobile,” King.com’s Chief Executive and co-founder Riccardo Zacconi said in an interview with Reuters. “Our target is to reach Zynga.”

Zynga currently has over 64 million daily average users so King.com definitely has their work cut out for them.

King.com is a private company with more than $47 million in venture investment from Apax Partners and Index Ventures. They are looking into an IPO in the near future but want to make sure the time is right.
