  • Kim Kardashian revealed on a recent episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians that she suffers from psoriasis.

“I have psoriasis, there is nothing I can do about it so there is no reason why I should feel uncomfortable,” Kim Kardashian said.

WebMD describes psoriasis and its symptoms this way:

“Psoriasis is a long-term (chronic) skin problem that causes skin cells to grow too quickly, resulting in thick, white, silvery, or red patches of skin… In psoriasis, new skin cells move rapidly to the surface of the skin in days rather than weeks. They build up and form thick patches called plaques. The patches range in size from small to large. They most often appear on the knees, elbows, scalp, hands, feet, or lower back.”

While many people with psoriasis feel very uncomfortable revealing their skin issue in public, such as at a pool or other setting where it may be more apparent, Kim Kardashian has a bolder approach.

“So to make myself feel better I lay out all my insecurities before we start a shoot in the hope that no one will be focused on that. I just want to do fun and artsy things. I want to capture really cool moments and have some great shoots and be nude and do all this cool stuff.”

Kim Kardashian doesn’t let her psoriasis get in the way of taking off as much clothing as she wants. WebMD notes that “psoriasis isn’t contagious. It can’t be spread by touch from person to person.” So when doing photo shoots, Kim Kardashian can have her psoriasis covered with makeup, or removed by Photoshop airbrushing techniques after the shoot.

Supermodel Cara Delevingne has also revealed that she suffers from psoriasis.
