Of course, Android 5.0 Jelly Bean is only just now in the early rumor phase, so details about Android 6.0 are literally nonexistent at this point, but when has that ever stopped anyone from speculating?

The astute observer will have noticed that when it comes to Android versions, Google has quite a sweet tooth. Just as Apple has shown a fondness for cats in naming versions of OS X, Google has consistently named the major versions of Android after desserts. It’s a tradition that goes back to 2009, when Android 1.5 Cupcake was released. Since then, every major release has had a name. Version 2.0 was Donut, followed by Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, and Ice Cream Sandwich. As mentioned above, Jelly Bean appears to be next on the list.

Now, the very astute observer will have noticed something else about Android’s version names: they’re in alphabetical order. That means that Android 6.0, probably due out sometime in 2013, will have to have a name beginning with K. So, what desserts start with K? Well, the good folks at The Verge have saved us some trouble and found a source who says that Android 6.0 will be dubbed Key Lime Pie.

Quite apart from the reliability of the source, Key Lime Pie is probably pretty much the only option available. After all, how many desserts do you know of that start with K? Can you think of any? Let us know in the comments.
