  • Pretty soon, G4 is going to be nothing but reruns. The channel that’s gone through more changes than Lady Gaga’s wardrobe is about to lose another familiar face, one of their only remaining. That’s right, Attack of the Show is losing host Kevin Pereira, who’s moving on to other ventures. This pretty much leaves Morgan Webb as the only “founding” personality who’s still with the company.

Over at the G4 blog, Pereira’s departure was announced:

After more than a decade on the air, host Kevin Pereira is leaving G4TV’s Attack of the Show. Attack will celebrate Pereira’s contribution to G4 with a month-long look back at his most memorable comedy sketches, interviews, and hilarious off-the-cuff moments from the show. The Pereira-palooza will culminate on May 31, his final day on AOTS, before Pereira delivers his final live, on-location coverage for the gaming world’s biggest event, the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), from June 4-7. In other words: Kevin’s going out large.

Which was confirmed on Pereira’s Twitter account:

Far more to say than a 140 characters will allow, but yes, I am leaving @aots. More info to come, and thanks for the kind words.(image) 56 minutes ago via web ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto

Granted, it’s still early, but there’s been no word on who will replace Pereira. As to whether G4 should even bother, well, that’s up to you to decide. For those who may not be aware, this isn’t the first tumultuous alteration the channel has had to deal with, going back to the Tech TV days. Names like Kevin Rose, Leo LaPorte, Chris Pirillo, and, to a lesser extent, Olivia Munn, have all come and gone from channel, which is actually in its third iteration.

However, the latest defections/resignations (Pereira and Adam Sessler, for instance) have left G4’s cupboard kind of bare. Yes, they could always hire someone new, but will that person have the same kind of chemistry Pereira had with the AOTS audience? Will they be given enough time to create their own rapport, or is Comcast more concerned about completing G4s shift, making it nothing but a channel that shows reruns?

The wait-and-see approach will probably be best here. For those of you who want a quick trip down memory lane, here’s Pereira’s first appearance on G4, something that will no doubt be on a loop when Pereira hosts his last group of AOTS shows:

As for Twitter, the reaction has been mixed:

Kevin Pereira has also left G4? But now who will crew members forcibly laugh at jokes for? #ohright #morganmanjaw(image) 1 hour ago via web ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto

Haters are definitely in the house, but there has been some love, too:

I’ll sincerely miss writing for @kpereira on AOTS — he’s a top notch class act. http://t.co/5yoZxfrz(image) 40 minutes ago via web ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto

Kevin Pereira is leaving @AOTS for good D: all of my sad. My only hope is that he’s starting his own show on G4 or some other network…(image) 16 minutes ago via Twitter for iPhone ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto

No Kevin Pereira don’t leave attack of the show!!! I’m not watching that show anymore! Lame people was hosting except you. #aots(image) 34 minutes ago via Twitter for iPhone ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto

So…no reason to watch G4 ever again now that Sessler and Pereira are gone. http://t.co/RcIIUth9 #Games #IMissTechTV(image) 18 minutes ago via web ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto

Which brings to the criticisms being currently leveled at G4:

G4 should just drop the gaming/technology pretense and call themselves the “we buy cheap syndications” channel. http://t.co/veEpWGdB(image) 8 minutes ago via TweetDeck ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto

Kevin Pereira leaving G4 puts whats left of that channel on its death bed. I should try negotiations again to buy it for the WWE Network.(image) 1 hour ago via Twitter for iPhone ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto

Now that Adam Sessler and Kevin Pereira is gone, the only thing G4 has left is Morgan Webb. G4 is history.(image) 14 minutes ago via web ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto

What path do you think G4 is traveling down, as they continue to distant themselves from the tech/video game industry? Syndication heaven or gone completely? Let us know what you think.
