Washington and Asomugha were married last year during a private and intimate ceremony on June 24, 2013 in Hailey, Idaho. However, it wasn’t until October 2013 that the couple announced that they were expecting a baby.

Kerry has never been one to give many details about her personal life, so it was no surprise that the birth of her daughter Isabelle Amarachi Asomugha wasn’t confirmed until now.

During the Scandal star’s many appearances on the red carpet, she talked about how blessed she felt to be having this baby. “I’m very blessed. I’m truly, truly blessed. Everything’s so extraordinary,” Kerry told Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson. “I have loved every moment of this and I’m just really blessed, honestly.”

She also told Ryan Seacrest that she felt like she had the best date of the night, pointing to her stomach, while attending January’s Golden Globe Awards. “I also feel like I have the best date of the night, my little accessory here,” she said.

“You know, it’s sort of like the rest of my private life: I’m not talking about it that much, but I feel really, really blessed,” Kerry explained. “It just feels like a really good time.”

Washington was able to continue working on Scandal while pregnant. However, since her character wasn’t pregnant, she had to conceal her pregnancy by using oversized clothes and purses.

Isabelle is the first child for the newly married couple.
