Kelly Rowland has been seeing her manager, Tim Witherspoon, for years, but the couple managed to keep it quiet. Now, she’s ready to let the world know she’s found the one…and he put a ring on it.

The couple got engaged last month, and Rowland talked about the unusual method Witherspoon had for asking in an interview with Queen Latifah.

“He asked me first on Skype,” she says, “and I was like, ‘We’re so far away from each other.’ But it was so late, I remember we were both just kinda like, honestly, just staring at each other. And he asked me, and it was just that simple to say yes. I was like, ‘I got my best friend to ride through life with.’ He really is my best friend.”

The former Destiny’s Child singer made headlines earlier this year when she broke down in tears during a performance of her song “Dirty Laundry”, which talks a bit about how she felt when Beyonce went solo and left her bandmates in the wake of her success.

“Bird in a cafe/ You’d never know what I was dealing with,” she sang. “Went our separate ways but I was happy she was killin’ it/ Bittersweet, she was up, I was down/ No lie, I feel good for her but what do I do now?”
