While at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York promoting her new film, Begin Again, 29-year old actress Keira Knightley seemed genuinely startled when E! News asked her about her upcoming first anniversary with musician James Righton.

“Oh yeah, is it?!” she stammered. “Oh, thanks, yeah good, wow!”

The couple, introduced by model Alexa Chung, were married on May 4 of last year in Mazan, Vaucluse, South of France and currently reside in the London Borough of Islington.

When asked how their first year of marriage has gone, Knightley replied, “Well, we’re still together so it must’ve been all right!”

In Begin Again, Knightley plays Gretta, whose heart is broken by her long-time boyfriend Dave (played by Adam Levine) after his new-found musical fame causes him to stray, sending Gretta off on her own. During this time Dan, a former record-label executive (played by Mark Ruffalo), discovers Gretta performing on an East Village stage and the transformation begins.

When asked if her rocker husband helped teach her play guitar for the film, Knightley said, “He tried to teach me how to play the guitar and I tried not to kill him – so that was about it. And he stopped trying to teach me the guitar ‘cause I’m not very good at it.”

On the red carpet, Knightley once again showed off her tiny figure in a waist-cinching Chanel dress.

In 2006, after her first appearance in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, the British star denied rumors that she is anorexic, although her family has a history of anorexia.

“They asked, ‘How does it feel to be always called anorexic?’ I had no idea that I was. I can safely say that I’m not,” Knightley said in a news conference. “I’ve got a lot of experience with anorexia. It was in my family. My grandmother, and my great-grandmother suffered from it and I had a lot of friends at school who suffer from it so I don’t think it’s anything to be taken lightly.”

Although Knightley never thought of herself as the marrying type, she says that she enjoys the consistency of marriage.

“These words that you think beforehand, ‘That’s the reason I’ll never do it … ,’ those words that you see as completely negative, and you suddenly see them as being incredibly positive, and that’s actually quite liberating and quite nice.”
