  • Katy Perry is still one of the best pop stars around despite debuting more than 10 years ago. Now she, alongside others, may make history tonight at the Billboard Music Awards.

It’s being reported that a federal judge has allowed the Billboard Music Awards to go ahead with its plans to use a Michael Jackson hologram during the awards show. We don’t know what the hologram will be performing, but it will be the first time the King of Pop has been resurrected using the technology. It won’t be the first time a famous music star has been resurrected though as Coachella had a hologram of Tupac perform back in 2012.

Resurrecting public figures through holograms is still a little weird, but Jackson’s hologram will be in good company during the Billboard Music Awards. Katy Perry, Lorde and Thicke will be performing on site at the MGM Grand Garden Arena while Miley Cyrus will be performing remotely from England. Cyrus is currently touring in the country as part of her Bangerz tour and is currently in the running for the top Hot 100 song with Wrecking Ball.

Barring Cyrus, who is performing remotely, it’s very likely that we’ll see either Perry, Lorde or Thicke performing alongside the Jackson hologram. At Coachella, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg performed alongside hologram Tupac without missing a beat.

While the two haven’t performed together, Lady Gaga has had Japanese virtual pop star Hatsune Miku open her ArtRave shows this summer:

If you want to see Michael Jackson’s hologram and the rest of the Billboard lineup, you can catch the awards show Sunday night at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
