Evidently, the 27 year old doesn’t like to be compared to other artists, especially one like Perry, who’s middle-of-the-ground-safe, and pretty much a record label’s dream when it comes to having catchy songs, a relatable message, and a girl next door appearance.

“I don’t know what the f–k I have to do with Katy Perry,” answered Gaga very abruptly. “My music is so completely different and I couldn’t be more different.”

Gaga’s answer refueled the rumors that the two were at odds and entangled in some very heated competition, but nothing could be further from the truth, said Perry, and she says that Gaga keeps her focused on performing well and staying creative.

“She is a fantastic performer and takes a lot of artistic chances, and it is always interesting to watch her,” said Perry.

“Sometimes, it keeps me on my toes as a performer. It’s nice to have that. But we both agree that we don’t like the competitive nature and we don’t encourage it from our fans, because you are not going to listen to one artist your whole life. You’ll listen to a medley of different artists.”

If you recall, many fans placed Perry and singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles in a heated competition, especially since the two had similar sounding songs in Perry’s Roar and Bareilles’ Brave. But Perry said she didn’t want to be in a competition with Bareilles and she said the same thing about being competitive with Gaga.

“It’s not a competition and we don’t like that,” explained Perry. “I think that…I like her artistic choices. They are always very interesting to watch.”
