  • Katy Perry is reportedly in the market for a historic convent, and though she’s found one in L.A. that boasts glorious views of the San Gabriel mountains, she may have a dispute on her hands if the nuns have their way.

Perry, according to the L.A. Times, wants to buy the convent from Archbishop Jose Gomez despite claims from the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary that the building legally belongs to them. In fact, the nuns have already sold the property to restaurateur Dana Hollister for $15.5 million, but Gomez says he has the only legal rights to the building and he wants to sell to Perry. The pop star has had her eye on it for the past few years–allegedly for a new home–but it’s not clear at this point whether she’ll get it, even though she reportedly pulled out all the stops when meeting with the nuns.

“Perry seems to have given her all in going after the property, and tried to make a good impression on the nuns at a recent meeting. I’m told that Perry dressed rather conservatively, and according to two of the sisters, she sang “Oh Happy Day” for them and showed them a “Jesus” tattoo on her wrist area. I would have advised her to sing “Kumbayah,” but I’m not in the entourage,” wrote Steve Lopez.

Perry reportedly offered to pay for the convent in cash, and she can afford it; she recently made the number three spot on the Forbes Highest Paid Celebrities list. Katy says she’s proud of her ability to have people working for her and explained that she’s more than a musician.

“I am proud of my position as a boss, as a person that runs my own company. I’m an entrepreneur… I don’t want to shy away from it. I actually want to kind of grab it by its balls,” Katy Perry said.
