  • Katie Couric is reportedly leaving ABC News, where she works as a special correspondent, for Yahoo. The online giant plans to host Katie’s online streaming video interview show.

While nothing is yet set in stone, serious negotiations are underway and Yahoo seems hopeful about gaining the media sweetheart. The Hollywood Reporter claims Katie Couric will exit her contract with ABC ahead of schedule, and set up shop with Yahoo sooner rather than later. They are also reporting that Katie was personally approached by Marissa Mayer, the CEO of Yahoo. Said to have ‘wooed’ the host of Katie–Couric’s talk show–it sounds like she may have done a pretty good job.

Twitter is lighting up with word of Yahoo’s big steal.

This tweeter asks an excellent question about the future longevity of network TV.

If Katie Couric is leaving network TV for Yahoo, then she has sound advice about the future of ‘regular’ television. Couric grew up on TV. She cut her teeth as a correspondent in Washington, D.C. before she even hosted or co-anchored any TV shows. She wouldn’t simply throw in the towel if she wasn’t certain that her next gig would be something profoundly bigger and better.

Although The Huffington Post claims a Yahoo source told them a deal with Katie Couric hasn’t yet been signed, this is making big news all over the media, so at the very least, she must be strongly considering this deal. In the meantime the press is no doubt eagerly awaiting an official release from a rep for either Yahoo, Katie Couric or both.
