Katie Couric, “Good Morning America” Go Up Against “Today”

  • Ever-perky Katie Couric, who has hosted numerous news shows–including a segment on “60 Minutes”–is guest hosting ABC’s “Good Morning America” this week in place of Robin Roberts.

    The guest spot comes just as “GMA” begins to close in on “Today” on the ratings chart, a rivalry 16 years in the making. Couric’s appearance on the show is expected to push it over the top. While she is a controversial choice for the show–which was until fairly recently Couric’s rival when she worked for the “Today” show–producers are hoping she will bring in enough viewers to keep “Today” from sweeping the rug from under them this week with an appearance by Sarah Palin, who will co-host tomorrow’s edition.

    Couric and Palin have something of a history, after a series of interviews the news anchor did with Palin. Now it looks like they will be vying for the nation’s attention in the hopes of boosting ratings.
