  • Kate Mara had done everything from superhero movies to Netflix original dramas, but now she’s moving on to true-crime. The former House Of Cards actress has reportedly been cast in the upcoming film Captive, which tells the true story of a woman taken hostage in her own home by a man who escaped police custody in 2005 and killed four people.

Selma star David Oyelowo will take the lead role, and Mara will reportedly play Ashley Smith, a young mother who wrote a book about her experience. According to IMDB: “a single mother struggling with drug addiction is randomly taken hostage in her own apartment by a man on the run from the law for breaking out of jail and murdering the judge assigned to his case.”

Ashley Smith escaped unharmed and later penned the book Unlikely Angel: The Untold Story Of The Atlanta Hostage Hero , which the film is partly based on. Smith allegedly calmed down her captor, Brian Nichols, with the book A Purpose Driven Life.

Mara only spent one season on House Of Cards, but she made a big impact on fans and went on to garner some big roles. She has said that working with Kevin Spacey was not at all like she thought it would be.

“Most people have this sort of picture of him as – and I sort of did as well before I started working with him – I thought he was going to be very, very serious, and a little intimidating. And that’s not my experience with him at all. He’s hilarious and with all the dramatic stuff we had to do together, he kept it light with me and I always felt really comfortable with him,” Mara said.
