  • Kanye West has made it clear time and time again that he doesn’t like to be the butt of anyone’s joke or to be made fun of at all. When Saturday Night Live cast member Jay Pharoah decided to make some jokes about Kanye’s marriage at the VMAs, Kanye got angry.

He was so mad that he decided to confront Jay and said that he called him as soon as the VMAs were over. He shared some of the phone conversation with the crowd at the Made in America Music Festival.

“They want to make a joke out of how hard we work,” Kanye said on Saturday. “It’s all fine and all funny and everything, but don’t distract from our vision. It’s not a joke what we do up here. This music that we do is not a joke. What we do culturally is not a joke.”

“I called Jay Pharoah right after the MTV VMA Awards,” West continued. “I said, ‘I appreciate your show, but let me tell you about my story. Let me tell you about what I went through to get to that position.’ So we ain’t gonna have no black comedians going up stage spoofing people that’s working hard to open doors not only for black people, but any creators, anybody that wants to add a contribution to the world.”

Kanye didn’t want to end his concert with a negative rant so he left on a positive note.

“When I leave tonight, I want y’all to leave with love,” he told the 90,000 people who attended the event.

Kanye didn’t say if Jay answered the phone or what he said to defend himself. Since Jay is a comedian, it is likely that he will just use the phone conversation to make fun of Kanye even more at a later time and it is doubtful that Kanye’s call had any real effect on him.
