Julianne Hough shared some excited news with her Instagram followers this week: she’s engaged!

The Dancing With The Stars judge posted a photo of herself wrapped around her fiance, Brooks Laich, and held out her hand so the world could see a hint of the ring. She hasn’t shared a closeup pic of the diamond or given details about how the proposal went down, however, so fans will just have to wait.

Julianne said in an interview with Redbook last year that she made a conscious effort to be open and honest with Laich after taking a long look at her previous relationships–which include Ryan Seacrest–and said she always felt she was holding back to keep from getting hurt.

“Every relationship, there was nothing wrong or bad, but there was nothing right. I had one foot out because I didn’t want to get hurt. And I didn’t say what was on my mind because I didn’t want to ruffle any feathers. I needed to be perfect. Now I’m not holding anything back because I’d rather get my heart broken than never know what it is to be completely, madly in love. If I had been this open in my last relationship, who knows?”

According to Hough, she was dating casually and not really enjoying it before she met Laich. The dancer and actress said last year that she would meet someone and then break it off with a text before it could get too serious.

“‘You are nice, but this is going nowhere'”, Julianne Hough said of her mindset at the time. “The next day my ‘Curve’ co-star introduced Brooks and me. It couldn’t have been a better time. We’ve been open and honest from day one.”
