  • Julianne Hough has had several failed relationships. She is now dating Washington Captials hockey player Brooks Laich and says that she is taking a new approach to relationships and the problems that couples face.

“Every relationship, there was nothing wrong or bad, but there was nothing right,” Julianne told Redbook magazine, which features her on its August 2014 cover.

“I had one foot out because I didn’t want to get hurt. And I didn’t say what was on my mind because I didn’t want to ruffle any feathers. I needed to be perfect,” Julianne continued.

“Now I’m not holding anything back because I’d rather get my heart broken than never know what it is to be completely, madly in love. If I had been this open in my last relationship, who knows?”

Julianne said that her past relationships taught her that she needed to make some changes and that she vowed to make sure she didn’t make the same mistakes in future relationships. She said she also changed her entire outlook on life and decided she needed to reevaluate her needs and wants.

“I had this epiphany when my family went to a six-day seminar [last November] about creating your own destiny. I was not into it at first, but I learned so much about myself and why my relationships didn’t work that by the end I was on a high.”

Hough said she was dating a couple people at the time and immediately let them know that things were not going to work out between them and that she no longer wanted to date them.

The next day she met Brooks and the two have had a great relationship so far.
