  • Joey Feek lived to meet several milestones she hoped to see this week. She wanted to live to see Valentine’s Day. She and husband Rory Feek went on their first date on Valentine’s Day several years ago. Joey Feek wanted to live to see this year’s Grammy Awards. She and Rory–the country bluegrass duo known as Joey + Rory–were nominated for a Grammy Award, and Joey was determined to watch the festivities on TV.

More important than both Valentine’s Day and the Grammy Awards, Joey Feek wanted to live to celebrate daughter Indiana’s second birthday. That is today. Rory Feek posted a picture of the mother and daughter on their Facebook page this morning. He noted that this was more than just a birthday. It was a dream come true.

…some birthdays are more than just birthdays. They're dreams coming true and prayers being answered.

Joey Feek is dying of cancer, and weeks ago these milestones seemed like impossibilities. She made it to see all three, however, although her body is quickly growing weaker and she is often in pain.

Rory Feek also shared a short video clip of little Indiana, shortly after she woke up on her birthday.

    …barely awake and already celebrating.

Rory also shared a photo of Indiana’s birthday breakfast, as “Uncle Russdriver,” Joey and Rory’s tour bus driver, fed her a meal.

These milestones Joey Feek lived to see must be awfully bittersweet for both her and Rory–as well as for their close friends and family members. Knowing she achieved them no doubt feels good, but understanding she could soon breathe her very last breath must hurt terribly, too.
