  • Jessica Chastain is reportedly taking on a very interesting role. The actress is set to play artist, activist, and Sitting Bull confidante Caroline Weldon in the upcoming film Woman Walks Ahead.

In 1889, Weldon traveled to the Standing Rock Indian Reservation as part of the National Indian Defense Association. There, she acted as a translator for Sioux chief Sitting Bull and worked to help him retain land which the US government was trying to seize.

“Her efforts, however, backfire, as she is ordered to leave the reservation, and the Standing Rock Sioux were bullied into signing away their land. But she returned with her teenage son, settling at Sitting Bull’s camp on the Grand River. In recognition of her unusual qualities, Sitting Bull’s people called her ‘Toka heya mani win,’ or ‘Woman Walking Ahead,'” according to Deadline.

The film is slated for a 2017 release.

This isn’t the only big role Chastain has on the horizon.

Chastain recently started work on the film Miss Sloane, in which “an ambitious lobbyist faces off against the powerful gun lobby in an attempt to pass gun control legislation.”

The film's about to start when the script's in my bed #MissSloane #research #lobbyists #workaholic
