  • Jessica Chastain opened up recently about how she handles fame, and said she’d rather hide in the shadows than go out where a million paparazzi can photograph her.

The 37-year old actress said she’s not very interested in fame and doesn’t see herself as a “movie star”.

“I’m a shadow whisperer, I hide in the shadows. I tend to avoid places where I might get photographed… I just don’t think of myself as a movie star — I’m an actress,” she told The Telegraph.

Chastain has been lying low–lower than normal–for the past several months, on a break after filming the horror flick Crimson Peak, which she says was a very difficult role. Like many films by Guillermo del Toro, it went to emotionally dark places that took a toll on the actress.

“That part was the hardest thing I have ever done. I gave so much and went to some very dark places. When I’d finished I felt like I didn’t want to act anymore. And I do love acting. But I realised that, if I didn’t take a break, it was going to take too much of a toll on me.”

Chastain’s next project is the highly-anticipated Interstellar, due out in theaters this week.

Chastain recently said in an interview with MTV that she would love to take on a role in a Marvel movie, and although she isn’t officially in talks with the company to star in an upcoming film, she said she’s ready to suit up, whether it be as hero or bad guy.

“Whatever it is, I want a fight scene. I could be an incredible villain. I could be a hero. I want a cool outfit, and I want to kick ass,” she said.
