  • The Jersey Devil is back in the “news” as a security guard in New Jersey’s Pinelands reportedly snapped a photo (seen in the tweet below) and sent it to NJ.com.

The publication received the photo and an email from the man, named Dave Black, who at first thought he saw a llama while driving by a golf course. He reportedly told them in the email:

“If that wasn’t enough, then it spread out leathery wings and flew off over the golf course.”

Apparently Black too a handful of photos, but the one you see is the only one that came out. The man swears it wasn’t photoshopped or staged, and claims he’s just looking for a reasonable explanation.

Black is also quoted as saying:

“The mind plays tricks on you. A friend suggested that maybe it was an animal running and an owl grabbed it, the photo being a combination of them. That’s still not my first instinct, but I don’t know how to explain it otherwise…I think I saw a large, flying mammal about the size of a deer.”

NJ.com also posted this video, which it says was taken by Emily Martin in Leeds Point. It’s unclear when that is supposed to have happened:

    Naturally, people are skeptical.

These stories have been going on for centuries. Here’s a picture that appeared in a Philadelphia newspaper in 1909:
