Jennifer Westfeldt On Jon Hamm’s Demons

  • Jennifer Westfeldt may be one of the few people who knows firsthand how much Jon Hamm struggles everyday.

In fact, Jennifer Westfeldt, as Hamm’s longtime girlfriend, was one of only a handful who knew ahead of time that Jon Hamm was going into rehab last month.

Hamm’s publicist, Annett Wolf, said in a statement on Tuesday that Jon Hamm, with the support of Jennifer Westfeldt, had quietly completed a 30-day stint in rehab.

The statement went on to say that Jon Hamm and Jennifer Westfeldt have asked “for privacy and sensitivity going forward.”

Jon Hamm is a lucky man to have an undertanding woman like Jennifer Westfeldt by his side as he battles his demons.

Jennifer Westfeldt seems to think that Jon Hamm has a lot in common with his on-screen persona, Don Draper.

She said, “It’s a confusing juxtaposition. I think the darkness of Don has weighed heavily on Jon, despite it being the role of a lifetime and the opportunity that gave him the career of his dreams.”

Jennifer Westfeldt also likely understands where Jon Hamm’s struggles come from.

Jon Hamm, who lost his mother at age 10 to stomach cancer, again suffered an extreme loss when he was just 20 and his father passed away.

“I was … unmoored by that. I struggled with chronic depression. I was in bad shape,” he said.

Jon Hamm managed to get through the crisis with a little help from his friends.

He said he “was very fortunate to have really good friends in my life whose parents sort of rallied.”

The help he received from them, as well as antidepressants, therapy, and the love and support of Jennifer Westfeldt, proved invaluable.

He said, “You can change your brain chemistry enough to think: ‘I want to get up in the morning; I don’t want to sleep until four in the afternoon. I want to get up and … go to work and …’ Reset the auto-meter, kick-start the engine!”

Hopefully Jon Hamm got the help he needs and can get a new start with Jennifer Westfeldt by his side.
